Clara Porset, 'Butaque' armchair, leather and cypress wood, Mexico, circa 1947.

Wonderful Butaque chairs designed by Clara Porset. These chairs have an exotic look, due to Porset's combination of Modern desgin with Mexican craftsmanship. The butaque chair is originally an example of the mestizo culture in Mexico. It is a design that came from Mexico's Spanish conquerers and was adapted by local artisans to become a representation of Mexican nationalism. Porset was inspired by this work and reinvented the aesthetics in several designs.
