Carl Malmsten Large Set of Dining Chairs
Carl Malmsten, 15 dining chairs, beech and fabric, Sweden, 1940s
This large set of chairs, consisting of 13 dining chairs and 2 armchairs, are designed by Carl Malmsten (1888-1972). The unique lines are striking and the tapered wooden legs complement its shape beautifully. The high backrests with an extra bar have a traditional aesthetics. The sculpted armrests of the two chairs are sculpted beautifully. This set is a great example of traditional Swedish craftsmanship and feature Malmsten's opposition to functionalism very well. Malmsten considered the home as an intimate place for gathering and repose.
