Liceu de Artes e Oficios Brazilian Rocking Chair in Leather
Liceu de Artes e Oficios, rocking chair, Brazilian walnut, leather, Brazil, 1960s.
This lounge chair of Brazilian origin has an open structure based on round forms and curved lines. Both sides are joined by swinging arches which serve to hold the curved armrests. Cognac leather is used for the seating area, which is supported by leather straps underneath. Extra comfort is created by means of the black leather cushions. The wooden frame is organically shaped and together with the absence of strict angles, the rocking chair attains a sculptural expression.
The architecture and design department of the Sao Paulo school of Arts & Crafts created furniture during the second half of the 20th century. The design department was led by Lucio Costa. This chair is another great example of the talented students.
Please note that the leather shows some wear and discoloration and the foam of the cushions needs to be replaced. In addition, the frame contains wear. Reupholstery and restoration is possible before shipping by our experienced craftsman and -women in our own in-house restoration atelier. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece retains its value and is ready for the many years to come. We kindly ask you to contact our design experts for further information about the endless possibilities our restoration and upholstery atelier has to offer. Of course, a locally organized reupholstery and restoration is possible as well.
