Belgian Brutalist Highboard in Stained Oak

$4,950.00

Highboard or cupboard, dark brown stained oak veneer, walnut veneer, Belgium, 1970s.

This cabinet features a clear rhythm and flow established by means of a well thought through lay out that is utterly well-balanced. The carved door panels immediately catch the eye and are the signature for this item; a design that is established during the seventies when Brutalism was at his highest level specifically in Belgium. This movement is an architectural style started from the mid-20th century, aiming for raw, geometric and compromise-less buildings. Characterized by blatant concrete-skeletons with geometric patterns and Puritan materials. In decorative arts brutalism is highly represented in furniture design. The design convinces visually through its stabile construction accomplished by the remarkable straight and sharp lines. Thanks to its rectangular shape, the highboard provides plenty of storage space. Overall, the style is simple and understated and strongly reminds of the designs of De Coene.

Please note that this piece is in good, used condition.
