Bed / daybed, mahogany, pine, Denmark, circa. 1940
This eloquent bed alludes to the stylistics traits of the artistic Art Deco movement of the 1940s. The design is based on a boat shaped construction featuring a high headboard and footboard as opposed to the lower sides, allowing the user to get in and out of bed in an easy movement. The whole unit feels unified and simplistic by means of the curved shapes and round edges of the borders and the absence of decoration. The body is executed in mahogany that epitomizes a wonderful maroon colored surface with expressive grains. It is the color and richness of the wood that defines this slim and elegant frame. The base is made of lacquered black pine that gives the illusion of a floating bed. This design shows strong resemblances to the creations of Danish furniture designer Peder Moos (1906-1991).
