Alessandro Mendini for Segno, floor lamp 'Milo', enameled metal and glass, Italy, 1982

Striking floor lamp designed by Alessandro Mendini in 1982, in the style of Memphis. This lamp is a simplified representation of a human figure. A black base is joined by a turquoise element. At the top a glass sphere is situated with a metal shade surrounding it.

In 1982, Mendini co-founded the Memphis Group, which included Ettore Sottsass and Michele De Lucchi. Nowadays, the groups is celebrated for its eclectic, Postmodern designs in furniture. The designs of this period feature irony, bright colors and scale distortions.
