Afra & Tobia Scarpa for Cassina, 'Soriana' sofa, brown leather, metal, Italy, 1969

Iconic sofa by Italian designer couple Afra & Tobia Scarpa. The Soriana proposes a model that institutionalizes the image of the informal sitting where everything has a soft line. Here the mass of the material and the backrest is supported and contained by a metal armor. The uncanny, original design that consists of the large cushions, the tufted surface creates a vibrant appearance. Beautiful details are the chromed metal parts which hold the cushions in place.

Please note that the leather shows patina and we advise restoration before shipping. The experienced craftsman of our in-house atelier are specialists on reupholstery of design furniture. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece retains its value and is ready for the many years to come.

Afra (1937-2011) & Tobia (1935-) Scarpa both studied on the Venice Institute of Architecture. Tobia first worked for the Italian glass manufacturer Venini. From 1960 on the couple opened their own design office. Their work includes architecture and everyday items like furniture and clothing. Tobia & Afra designed for numerous major Italian and international companies like Flos, Gavina, B&B Italia, Cassina, Knoll International and many interior projects for numerous companies worldwide.
