Afra & Tobia Scarpa for Cassina, pair of '925' easy chairs, walnut and leather, Italy, 1966
Two '925' lounge chairs by Italian designer couple Tobia and Afra Scarpa. These low chairs have a cubic and architectural appearance. The base consist of four straight, flat legs, which provide an open look. The seating and back are beautifully shaped and slightly curved. These chairs are very well detailed and feature various original design elements such as the gap in the lower back and the extension of the back below the seat. This set is made with a warm red leather, combined with a walnut frame.
Afra (1937-2011) & Tobia (1935-) Scarpa both studied on the Venice Institute of Architecture. Tobia first worked for the Italian glass manufacturer Venini. From 1960 on the couple opened their own design office. Their work includes architecture and everyday items like furniture and clothing. Tobia & Afra designed for numerous major Italian and international companies like Flos, Gavina, B&B Italia, Cassina and Knoll International.
