Afra and Tobia Scarpa for B&B, set of four ‘Dialogo’ dining chairs, walnut, cognac leather, Italy, 1970s.

The ‘Dialogo’ dining chair was designed by Afra and Tobia Scarpa in the 1970s and convinces with its two angular frames to which the seat with rounded backrest is attached. The soft shape of the backrest and its visual qualities form a great harmony with the cubic frame in walnut. In absence of decorative details, the design convinces visually through the well-balanced appearance and the stabile construction.

Afra (1937-2011) & Tobia (1935-) Scarpa both studied on the Venice Institute of Architecture. Tobia first worked for the Italian glass manufacturer Venini. From 1960 on the couple opened their own design office. Their work includes architecture and everyday items like furniture and clothing. Tobia & Afra designed for numerous major Italian and international companies like Flos, Gavina, B&B Italia, Cassina, Knoll International and many interior projects for numerous companies worldwide.
