Adrian Pearsall Sofa in Ocher Yellow Striped Upholstery
Adrian Pearsall, sofa, American walnut, fabric, United States, 1960s.
This beautifully shaped sofa designed by Adrian Pearsall is characterized by a solid construction, featuring clear lines and sharp shapes. The boomerang shaped legs uplift the sofa and, together with the slightly outwarded armrests, bring a more open and inviting look to the quite solid design. Adrian Pearsall was more often inspired by boats for his designs, which makes it no surprise that he pursued a career in yachts after he left the design world in the 1970s. The upholstery of this sofa features various complementary colors, such as orange, ocher yellow, brown, and off-white. The sofa can be placed in the middle of the room or away from the wall, providing the room a lively ambiance.
Adrian Pearsall (1925-2011), trained as an architectural engineer, was a sailor and interior designer. In 1952, Pearsall opened his own furniture company 'Craft Associates. Pearsall designed some of the most sensuous, gracious midcentury design pieces around, sharing many of the design aesthetics by Vladimir Kagan. His pieces are characterized by flamboyant curves, upswept shapes and stretched proportions.
