Set of four lounge chairs, fabric, wood, France, 1940s.
These armchairs strongly remind of the iconic chairs created by the talented French designer René Gabriel (1899-1950), who is known for his constructivist approach to furniture design. The design conceals an evolved rustic character with great quality of elegance. This is discernible in the wooden frame which is based on a construction of sharp horizontal and vertical lines. The deep seating area, together with the slightly titled backrest, invites the sitter to have a pleasant and enjoyable time while sitting on it. The chair is an elegant and well-proportioned piece within a simplistic construction that allows it to fit seamlessly into any interior.
