Sideboard, oak veneer, Italy, circa 1940s

This exceptional sideboard undoubtedly breathes the Late Art Deco Period of the 1940s. Excellent craftsmanship is combined with a well-balanced eye for the composition of functional and decorative elements. The front holds a beautiful carved pattern composed of horizontal and vertical lines with rectangular shapes as outcome. This graphical visualization adds a wonderful rhythmic and haptic surface to the front. Also, the veneer wood features an incredibly naturalistic, visual texture that shows nice wooden grains and admirable age-appropriate patina. The interior of the corpus is equipped with various storage facilities, such as shelves and drawers, which make this a functional item allowing the user to store its personal belongings. The legs are sculpturally shaped, and its appearance is very characteristic for the style of Paolo Buffa, who is known for his combination of Art Deco motifs with modernist principles.
