Sideboard, stained oak, wrought iron, Spain, 1950s

This exuberant sideboard originates from Spain and shows the highly decorative characteristics of the 17th century Spanish baroque style. As is typical for baroque furniture design, their compositions integrate elements in a balanced and harmonious manner. Meaning that the implementation of ornamentation were replicated on both sides, of which this credenza is an excellent example. The pedestal feet are composed of elaborate curves and are connected through classic bracing irons. The corpus consists of graphic designed door panels illustrating rectangular and square carvings, which create a rhythmic surface to the front. Taking every stylistic realization into account, the craftsmanship of the creator is truly evident, who has created a detailed, well-proportioned design with a high ornate quality.
