Victor Courtray Pair of Armchairs in Oak and Straw

Sale price£12,281.96

Victor Courtray, pair of armchairs, straw, oak, France, circa 1940

This rare pair of lounge chairs embraces an evolved provincial character with great quality of elegance. The type of upholstery and construction, give the chair a character of its own. Traditionally, with these type of rustic chairs, the fiber threads are tightened to one another, creating a smooth texture. These chairs are made of woven rope lines in straw structured in a loose way. Layering upon one another, the seat gets a visually interesting geometric pattern. The way the frame is built, in a reconstructivistic manner, is typical for French design of the the first half of the twentieth century.

Kindly note that these chairs are in good, used condition.
