Pendant light / chandelier, glass, brass, acrylic, Italy, 1950s/1960s

This lighting pendant, a mid-century Italian design from the 1950s or 60s, reflects postwar Italy’s embrace of industrial materials shaped with elegance and restraint. Suspended from the ceiling by a single rod that splits in opposite sides, the lamp hovers horizontally in space. The shape itself is distinctly rectilinear, softened by rounded end caps in brass. The central body is an elongated box, almost architectural in its proportions, sheathed in a pale beige textural acrylic that both diffuses the light and introduces a warm, organic contrast to the metallic brass frame. This interplay between softness and solidity is central to the piece’s character: it is both a functional object and a sculptural gesture. Below the acrylic sides, a glass plate spans the length of the form, slightly recessed within the brass housing. This kind of shape was really common in Italian design at the time. You would see it in the work of brands like Fontana Arte – they often used these forms to create pieces that felt both elegant and modern.

Kindly note that the chandelier is in good, used condition with signs of age and use. For further details, we encourage you to reach out to our team of design specialists.
