Gianfranco Frattini for Arteluce Pendant

Sale price£5,141.51

Gianfranco Frattini for Arteluce, pendant or ceiling light model 597/S, chromium-plated metal, chromed aluminum, painted aluminum, rayon, textured glass, Italy, 1961.

Gianfranco Frattini designed this innovative pendant lamp for Arteluce in 1961. A central conical shaped base holds multiple light bulbs which are behind a curtain of rayon. The decorative element of the fringe is a hint to the traditional lampshade.

Gianfranco Frattini (1926-2004) was born in Padua and studied architecture at the Milan Politechnico. After his studies, Frattini started working for Gio Ponti until 1956. Afterwards, he opened his own practice in Milan and began creating his own designs. His work is mostly part of the generation that created the Italian design movement of the late 1950s through the 1960s. The designer eventually died in Milan in 2004.

Please note that a small cluster of fringes are in poor condition and the aluminum base shows signs of wear and use. Restoration is possible before shipping by our experienced craftsman and -women in our own in-house restoration atelier.
