Adrian Pearsall, 'Cloud' sofa, walnut, fabric, United States, 1950s
Adrian Pearsall's "Cloud" sofa, crafted in the 1950s in the United States, is a stunning example of mid-century modern design. The sofa's organic, sinuous lines and modern silhouette exude a sense of effortless comfort and elegance. Its distinctive L-shape makes it a versatile piece, ideal for both living and dining areas, where it can serve as a striking focal point. The sofa rests on a sleek black base, beautifully framed by a walnut edge, showcasing Pearsall's signature attention to detail and ability to blend form with function. This iconic piece is a true testament to Pearsall's visionary approach to furniture design.
Adrian Pearsall (1925-2011), trained as an architectural engineer, was a sailor and interior designer. In 1952, Pearsall opened his own furniture company 'Craft Associates’. Pearsall designed some of the most sensuous, gracious midcentury design pieces around, sharing many of the design aesthetics by Vladimir Kagan. His pieces are characterized by flamboyant curves, upswept shapes and stretched proportions.
