A substantial seating furniture with a sophisticated touch, these armchairs feature generously-sized, bulky shapes and well-defined contours. The subtly inclined backrest harmonizes with the wooden frame's shape that the designer skilfully curved. The low-positioned armrests that are separated from the seat, add a distinctive character to the piece. All in, a non-conventional structure, taking a radical approach, developed within a distinct geometric layout, a hallmark of Gerli's design ethos. The chairs have been reupholstered in a fine chenille fabric in an off-white color, which seamlessly blends with the inviting warmth of the mahogany.

Kindly be informed that the photographs provided are merely examples, as we had more of these chairs in stock. During the Second World War, the two met in a stalag, a Prussian prisoner camp, while being imprisoned by the Germans in East Prussia and started a great friendship based on their intense and deep passion for interior design. In 1948, Chambron resigned from his job as a painter and decorator on the Rue Nollet in Paris to move to Lille, in the North of France and join Guillerme. A year later, the two met cabinetmaker Émile Dariosecq, who was the owner of a workshop close by. It was during this meeting, that they decided to create their own company. They named it “Votre Maison”, meaning “Your Home”, which became the soul of the company. With this, they wanted to create pieces that focused on functionality combined with a beautiful design useful for daily life, by which they created a worldwide reputation. Most of the furniture designed by this duo shows a strong character and has a great expressive woodwork. The three of them divided their work equally. Overall, Guillerme worked as a designer, Chambron as a commercial, and Dariosecq’s workshop manufactured the pieces. Throughout their career, ‘Votre Maison’ produced over two thousand models, leaving a lasting mark in the world of design. The name ‘Flag Halyard’ refers to the innovative material that Wegner uses: the rope Wegner selected to create the seat was usually used to lift a flag. Wegner claims that the ‘Flag Halyard’ was designed when he and his family were on summer holiday. He dug a pit in the sand to create the perfect sitting or lying position to still enjoy the surroundings. Here he made the first sketches for this chair. In the very first versions, the frame was coloured white. Since Wegner wanted the constructive details to be more visible, he changed the colour to dark green, like in this example. The way the frame stands on wooden feet, indicates the early edition of the chair since Wegner later changed this part to be made in plastic. In addition to the attached leather head cushion, a sheepskin can be put on the seat to create more comfort and warmth.

Hans Wegner (1914-2007) is one of the most prolific furniture designers of the world. Wegner's furniture was designed with the greatest understanding of materials, construction techniques and use. Wegner is known to be an excellent cabinet maker with thorough understanding of the materials he worked with, yet his greatest aim was to create expressive and exciting design. Although Wegner was a functionalist, he was not a rational dogmatist such as Kaare Klint, of whom he was a student. Instead, his designs sparkle with inventiveness and sculptural sense. But this never meant that his organic and sensuous forms left the strict rules of functionalism. At heart, Wegner was an idealist. He was relentless in his quest for the best chair: 'there is never one damn thing that cannot be made better'. But Wegner was aware of the fact that you cannot design the 'perfect' chair, which gave him the freedom to produce as much as possible. He left behind more than 3500 drawings and about 500 of his designs went into production. His designs feature in the UN Building and Seagram Building in New York, UNESCO's headquarters. The Filo Sfera floor lamp showcases a magnificent design characterized by a captivating interplay of volumes and shapes, executed using modern materials. Angelo Lelii's exceptional craftsmanship is evident in the innovative mechanism embedded in this piece. The lamp features Lelii's signature eye-shaped spherical diffuser, adjustable in height through a sliding system using a thin wire, eliminating the need for fasteners. The magnetized globe, also adjustable, enables users to direct the light either in a more direct or indirect position. Complementing this is an elongated cylindrical stem that gracefully curves at the end, forming a distinct angle. The sturdy circular base adds both weight and balance to the structure. Once again, Lelii has masterfully designed a lamp that seamlessly combines functionality with a beautifully intricate aesthetic.

Paolo Angelo Lelii (1911-1979) was born in Ancona, Italy. After his studies at the Superior Institute of Industrial Art, Milan, he lived and worked in Monza. From 1943, Lelii started manufacturing lamps in his own house and in 1946 he advertised his well-known 'Tris' lamp in Domus magazine. It was in 1947 that he founded Arredoluce in Monza, a premier manufacturer of furniture and lighting. In the same year, he exhibited the lamp 12128 at the VII Triennale di Milano, which became known as the Triennale floor lamp. He became an influential designer in Postwar Italy, especially in the field of modern lighting design. During the 1950s, Arredoluce started to collaborate with designers such as Franco Albini, Achille Castiglioni, Gio Ponti, and Ettore Sottsass and began to experiment with halogen light bulbs for his designs, which lead to the recognizable Arredoluce switch. From the 1960s, Caldas became involved with several furniture and architectural projects, and took an interest in issues relating to the preservation of forests, using salvaged wood for his projects. As such, Caldas started creating solid furniture from single tree trunks. He called this series of furniture 'Móveis Denúncia', meaning protest furniture, in an attempt to bring attention to the environmental destruction of him home region. The present piece is a stunning example wonderful example of the artist’s ecological approach to design.

José Zanine Caldas (1919-2001) was born in Belmonte, Brazil. His designs are known for their raw, natural and sculptural qualities. Caldas was an autodidact and started his career as designer in the construction industry. He worked as a model builder for designers and architects including Oscar Niemeyer. In 1948 he founded the company Moveis Artisticos Z, and there he produced semi-mass produced plywood furniture. But already two years later, he decided to leave the company and return to his home state Bahia. Later he began to work with local materials, and combined the colonial aesthetic with the new modernist style. It was through his experience and development in style that is known to stay close to the truth of the material and that abandoned the rigid rules and objectivism of the Modernist era. Caldas held a strong believe that man should live in harmony with nature.

Most of Caldas' contemporary colleagues graduated from art schools or architectural institutes. Caldas, however, developed his own style and methods. He decided to leave Bahia and move to Rio de Janeiro. Famous colleagues such as Lucio Costa and Oscar Niemeyer admired his methods, skills and ingenuity.

José Zanine Caldas was particularly interested in other cultures and peoples. During his travels through Africa and Asia, he was impressed by the local customs in the places he visited. The human quest for unity with nature became the main theme in his work.

He still felt drawn to his native region of Bahia and Caldas moved back in 1968. There he was inspired by the local craftsmen who cut boats out of fallen trees. Caldas began to apply this method to his furniture art. He started chiseling and carving wooden sculptural works and furniture. These handmade objects, which are all unique due to his working method, formed the focus and the pinnacle of Zanine Caldas' further career.

The fact that Caldas was very committed to his environment, and in particular the Brazilian landscape, always proved to be a guiding principle in his choices. He saw the toll agriculture and forest clearing demanded on the local nature. An advocate of rainforest conservation, Caldas founded the Foundation Center for the Development of the Application of Brazilian Woods. With this foundation Caldas fought against the destruction of the rainforests in Brazil by, among other things, freeing up money for education.

For his handmade furniture, he also made the radical choice to use only found wood, just like the local craftsmen. Rasmussens Snedkerier Set of Four Dining Chairs
Kaare Klint for Rud. Rasmussens Snedkerier, set of four dining chairs, fabric, mahogany, brass, Denmark, design 1928, made 1950s

These dining chairs were designed by Danish master Kaare Klint in 1928 and made in the 1950s. The seat and backrest are upholstered in a fabric distinguished by its black and rouge red striped pattern. Referred to as the Red Chair, they were originally conceived for the lecture hall of the Danish Art and Design Museum. Gustav Falck, the director of the National Gallery of Denmark, possessed a collection of antique English chairs in the Chippendale style dating back to circa 1750-1760. In September, the museum borrowed the "finest" chair from Falck's collection, that Ole Wanscher would examine. This research served as inspiration, leading to the completion of the design and the final model by Rud. Rasmussens Snedkerier in November 1927. Subsequently, Klint adapted the chair for his sectional tables, stimulating the need for smaller variations, available in three sizes and with or without arms. Furthermore, these chairs gained international acclaim when they were exhibited at the World Exposition in Barcelona, earning the prestigious grand prix medal in 1929. As a result of this recognition, they became known as the 'Barcelona Chair.'

The origin of the Red Chair stems from its Niger goatskin, which was tanned and dyed red using earth dyes by local villagers. For Klint, this chair marked the beginning of his exploration into firm padding, accompanied by the essential use of upholstery nails. These nails, meticulously spaced at a width akin to that of a nail, serve as a deliberate visual representation of the skin's attachment. Simultaneously, the rows accentuate and define the chair's inherent lines and form. This detail is a clear example that fits well with Klint's idea on structure in his other work, showing how things fit together simply and clearly.

Kaare Klint (1888-1954), born in 1888 in Frederiksburg, Denmark, was a Danish architect and furniture designer. From a young age, Klint was immersed in architecture. His father was the well-known architect Peder Vilhelm Jensen-Klint (1853-1930), who is mainly known for designing the Grundtvigs church in Copenhagen. After studying at the P.S. Krøyer’s Art School from 1907, Klint made his debut as a designer. That year, the Association of Furniture Manufacturers in Copenhagen announced that they would hold a competition for furniture design. Klint submitted, together with Ivar Bentsen (1876-1943), under a code name and together they received first price. In 1924, Klint helped establish the Department of Furniture Design at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. As associate professor, and later professor, he inspired some of the greatest and most well-known Danish designers, including Hans J. Wegner (1914-2007) and Arne Jacobsen (1902-1971). Klint worked and thought along a few strong principles being the importance of former styles. He believed that the only way forward was to have a deep knowledge of craftsmanship. One of his other core principles was to research functionality and have an outstanding sense for proportion, space and the human body. Overall, Klint drew inspiration from the Shakers, Chippendale and Biedermeier. Kaare Klint's style from the 20s and 30s has had a lot of influence on other designers in both Europe and the United States. Amongst others Børge Mogensen (1914-1972), Finn Juhl (1912-1989) and Poul Kjærholm (1929-1980) have taken influence from Klint. Therefore, Kaare Klint can be seen as the father of Danish mid-century design. Already from a young age, he felt the need to roam the world. He was only twenty-one when he left France in order to spend the next few years traveling through England and Scandinavia. In December of 1951, he was living back in Paris, where he met his future wife, Nicole. Their meeting was the beginning of a lifelong union. Together, the lovebirds travelled through South and North America being captivated by the architectural diversity. Back in France, he and his partner Nicole set up Société Chapo in 1957. Société Chapo was a design workshop and gallery in one where he showed his own creations. However, Nicole also presented her ceramics, and textiles here and they even exhibited other great designers of that period. In 1958, they opened their famous gallery at 14 Boulevard de l'Hopital. Chapo's work originated by means of special commissions that could later be adapted to universal needs. Throughout his career, Chapo combined his interest for contemporary design with his love for traditional craftsmanship. In his designs, he was inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright's balanced lines, Corbusier's research on proportions and the ideas of Bauhaus. The three principles that motivated Pierre Chapo were 'material, form, and function.' He measured his furniture by means of golden ratio and used elmwood as his preferred material. Unfortunately, Chapo fell ill, and he died in 1987, however, until his last day, he kept on designing and working.

Please note that the table shows signs of use. Rasmussens Snedkerier, set of four armchairs, model '3758A', leather, mahogany, Denmark, design 1930

These dining chairs in light brown to cognac leather and mahogany, were designed in 1930 by Kaare Klint. Referred to as the Red Chair, the first chairs without armrests were originally conceived for the lecture hall of the Danish Art and Design Museum. In 1930, Klint came with an armchair version, specifically designed for the office of the Prime Minister Thorvald Stauning.

Furthermore, these chairs gained international acclaim when they were exhibited at the World Exposition in Barcelona, earning the prestigious grand prix medal in 1929. As a result of this recognition, they became known as the 'Barcelona Chair.'

Kaare Klint (1888-1954), born in 1988 in Frederiksburg, Denmark, was a Danish architect and furniture designer. From a young age, Klint was immersed in architecture. His father was the well-known architect Peder Vilhelm Jensen-Klint, who is mainly known for designing the Grundtvigs church in Copenhagen. After studying at the P.S. Krøyer’s Art School from 1907, Klint made his debut as a designer. That year, the Association of Furniture Manufacturers in Copenhagen announced that they would hold a competition for designer furniture. Klint submitted, together with Ivar Bentsen, under a code name and together they received first price. In 1924, Klint helped establishing the Department of Furniture Design at the Royal Danish Academy of fine Arts. As associate professor, and later professor, he inspired some of the greatest and most well-known Danish designers, including Hans J. Wegner and Arne Jacobsen. Klint worked and thought along a few strong principles being the importance of former styles. He believed that the only way forward was to have a deep knowledge of craftsmanship. One of his other core principles was to research functionality and have an outstanding sense of proportion, space and the human body. Overall, Klint drew inspiration from the Shakers, Chippendale and Biedermeier. Kaare Klint's style from the 20s and 30s has had a lot of influence on other designers in both Europe and the United States. Amongst others Børge Mogensen, Finn Juhl and Poul Kjærholm have taken influence from Klint. Therefore, Kaare Klint can be seen as the father of Danish midcentury design.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0289/5187/1548/files/50118886_St_P_18_012d460b-d783-4736-a62f-4d7bee79e40d.jpg?v=1779469169
gino-paroldo-mid-century-4027-chandelier-in-brass-and-sepia-glass
Gino Paroldo Mid-Century '4027' Chandelier in Brass and Sepia Glass
Gino Paroldo for Dino Dei, chandelier model '4027', brass and glass, Italy, 1960s

Italian postwar chandelier by renowned Italian designer Gino Paroldo. The main distinguishing feature between the classic Monk chairs and these is the addition of cylindrical-shaped beams attached to the top and bottom of the legs. The characteristic 'flat' shape of the legs found in Monk chairs is also present in this version. This constructive feature gives the chair the appearance of being light-weight, whilst in fact they are very solid and heavy. Another repeating detail is the use of nails on the top of each leg, which are executed in a black dark color. The black saddle leather forms a striking combination with the walnut wood. All in all, a very interesting and high-quality chair. Simplified and solid design by Italian award winning designer couple Afra & Tobia Scarpa.

Afra (1937-2011) & Tobia (1935-) Scarpa are a duo of Italian architects and designers mostly known for their postmodern style. Afra Bianchin was born in 1937 in Montebelluna while Tobia Scarpa, son of the architect Carlo Scarpa, was born in 1935 in Venice. The couple met when they were both studying at the Venice Institute of Architecture and married afterwards. From 1957 until 1961, Tobia worked as a glass designer at the Murano glassworks of Venini. However, in 1960, the duo started to collaborate, and they set up one of the most successful and well-known professional studios. Together, they worked for companies such as Flos Gavina, B&B Italia, and Knoll. The couple won numerous amounts of awards like the Compasso d’Oro and the International Forum Design. Throughout their career, the duo carried out commissions for well-known companies, including Benetton. Overall, their designs are known for their modernist aesthetic, prioritizing elegance and comfort. However, at the same time, their pieces are admired for the ease with which they lean towards classical designs. Moreover, the creations show their deep understanding for materials. Today, many of their works can be found in major museums such as Museum of Modern Art of New York, Musée du Louvre, National Museum of Design New York and many more.

Kindly note that the chairs are in good, used condition with visible signs of age and use.
