Pair of Nielsen and Hvidt X-Chairs in Mahogany and Cognac Leather
Peter Hvidt & Orla Mølgaard Nielsen for Fritz Hansen, pair of X-chairs 'model 6103', original cognac leather upholstery, mahogany and burl wood, Denmark, 1958.
This pair of chairs designed by Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard Nielsen is for obvious reasons nicknamed the X-chair. The detailing of this X-design runs all the way from the front legs to the rear showing a burl wood inlay and highly skilled laminated wood work. Very sculptural and elegant chairs that still hold the original leather, that developed an admirable patina over the years.
Danish designer duo Peter Hvidt (1916-1986) and Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen (1907-1993) worked together between 1944-1975. The couple, originally trained as architects, designed around 250 furniture objects.
