Gianfranco Frattini for Cassina, nesting tables model '780', black and white lacquered wood, Italy, 1960s

Nesting tables, consisting of four pieces, designed by Gianfranco Frattini for Cassina. All the tables embody a black lacquered wooden frame with a reversible white and black top. The construction is based on round shapes with different heights, which results in a dynamic look. The set features an ingenious system: the tables are stackable to form one cylindrical block.

Gianfranco Frattini (1926-2004) was born in Padua and studied architecture at the Milan Politechnico. After his studies, Frattini started working for Gio Ponti until 1956. Afterwards, he opene his own practice in Milan and began creating his own designs. His work is mostly part of the generation that created the Italian design movement of the late 1950s through the 1960s. The designer eventually past away in Milan in 2004.
