This striking piece of 20th-century design history commands attention with its monumental scale and masterful craftsmanship. Its appearance evokes the rugged, jagged texture of stalagmites, showcasing Evans' signature approach to metalworking. Through intricate sculpting and shaping of bronze, he achieved a distinctive aesthetic that seamlessly blends brutalism with artistry, making this unit a true statement piece.

The bronze series was introduced by Evans in 1964 at Directional, with production being a blend of traditional craftsmanship, spontaneous artistry, and experimental technology. To create the pieces, Dorsey Reading fashioned a plywood base shape which was then coated with epoxy and sprayed with bronze using a technique adapted from shipbuilding. In certain instances, Evans and Reading added more bronze mixed with epoxy and sandblasted it onto a frame using sterilized play-box sand. Alternatively, fragments of steel "rock," hammered leftovers from the previous day, were affixed to the epoxy for a sculptural effect. Evans' PE100-200 Bronze series ultimately became Directional's most enduring and best-selling collection.

Paul Evans (1931-1987) was among one of the most important American Studio Craft Movement members. Together with artists such as Wharton Esherick and George Nakashima, he helped to make the Philadelphia region a prominent center for the Studio Craft in the late 1960s. Born in Newton, Pennsylvania, Evans studied at a few different institutions such as the Philadelphia Textile Institute, the Rochester Institute of Technology, School for American Craftsman, and the Cranbrook Academy of Art. Eventually, he was drawn to New Hope, Pennsylvania, in 1955 where he collaborated and shared a showroom with Phillip Lloyd Powell until 1966. Powell’s woodwork and Evans's metal craftsmanship combined into a creative partnership. During this period, he started to create furniture with metal and sculpture by which he manipulated materials to achieve expressive surface effects. In 1964, Evans started working for the Directional Furniture company where he pursued a new phase of his career. Directional offered him new opportunities for selling his work throughout the US and he continuously introduced new lines. However, his line proved to be too expensive and by the end of the seventies, he ended his relationship with the company. It was also throughout the seventies that Evans started to replace these crusty, textured surfaced, that were patinated with paint and acid, with dazzling, reflective metal surfaces that were sometimes mixed with woods. Evans’s oeuvre has an impressive size especially when regarding all pieces were handmade. On March 6, 1987, the artist shut down his business and, unfortunately, died the next day due to a heart attack. The design won the Compasso d'Oro Award in 1962.

Studio B.B.P.R. was an Italian architectural partnership founded in Milan in 1932 by Gianluigi Banfi (1910-1945), Lodovico Barbiano di Belgiojoso (1909-2004), Enrico Peressutti (1908-1976) and Ernesto Nathan Rogers (1909-1969) who had studied at the Politecnico di Milano. B.B.P.R. was thus an acronym formed from the first letters of their family names. The architects found each other in their opposition to fascism in Italy in the 1930s and 1940s during Mussolini's autocratic regime. The architects therefore believed in developing a style that would have no references to contemporary politics. During the Second World War, they all joined the resistance. However, Rogers, a Jew, fled to Switzerland and both Belgiojoso and Banfi were deported to the Mauthausen concentration camp in Austria, where Banfi died in 1945. Despite the immense loss of Banfi, their architectural practice continued in the same name as before after the war. Especially during the 1950s, they created many of their great projects. With their designs, they strongly reacted against the International Style with its rectilinear forms and taut plane surfaces that have been completely stripped of applied ornamentation. Instead, the group enriched their buildings with medieval references. For B.B.P.R., their philosophy on art and architecture is somewhat between tradition and modernism; their use of post-beam structures and modular elements parallels with the constructive thinking of modern architects. However, as modernism rejects the existence of historical forms, B.B.P.R. reinterprets history's heritage and continues with respect for the work of their predecessors. Ernesto Nathan Rogers referred to it as “preesistenze ambientali” (the pre-existing environment) and adopt a “caso per caso” (case by case) interpretation to work with, instead of against, the surroundings. One of their well-known designs is the creation of the Torre Velasca in Milan, with strong references to medieval architecture. The architects were also frequently employed to create interior spaces altogether with furniture designs.

Kindly note that this item is in good, used condition.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0289/5187/1548/files/50110631_St_P_45_5176f1b1-d1a7-44d3-a4c7-2db6efe32080.jpg?v=1761050965
guillerme-chambron-wall-mounted-shelf-with-drawers-in-solid-oak
Guillerme & Chambron Wall-Mounted Shelf with Drawers in Solid Oak
Guillerme et Chambron for Votre Maison, wall-mounted shelf with drawers, oak, brass, France, 1960s

Guillerme et Chambron crafted this wall-mounted shelf with both elegance and practicality in mind, designed to sit atop a sideboard and serve as an open showcase for your most treasured pieces. Robert Guillerme studied design and architecture at the École Boule and graduated first in his class in 1934. Meanwhile, Jacques Chambron graduated from the School of Applied Arts in Reims. During the Second World War, the two met in a stalag, a Prussian prisoner camp, while being imprisoned by the Germans in East Prussia and started a great friendship based on their intense and deep passion for interior design. In 1948, Chambron resigned from his job as a painter and decorator on the Rue Nollet in Paris to move to Lille, in the North of France and join Guillerme. A year later, the two met cabinetmaker Émile Dariosecq, who was the owner of a workshop close by. It was during this meeting, that they decided to create their own company. They named it “Votre Maison”, meaning “Your Home”, which became the soul of the company. The design was awarded the Compasso d’Oro in 1962.

Please note that this item is in used condition and might need some touch ups or respraying. At the age of 16, he joined his father’s furniture shop, the Atelier di Varedo, which was fully engaged in designing and furnishing homes inspired by the Italian Art Deco movement. The designer of the atelier was the Italian architect Gino Maggioni (1898-1955) who was known for his Viennese Jugendstil orientation of the early 20th century. In the 1930s, he graduated from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera and Politecnico di Milano, where he studied Fine Arts and Architecture respectively. In 1932, the family company was renamed ‘Arredamenti Borsani’ and opened its first studio in Milan. During this period, he encountered Avant-Garde artists of various artistic disciplines like Lucio Fontana (1899-1968), Agenore Fabbri (1911-1998), Aligi Sassu (1912-2000), Roberto Crippa (1921-1972), Fausto Melotti (1901-1986), Arnaldo Pomodoro (1926-) and Giò Pomodoro (1930-2002). These collaborations resulted in the creation of furniture and interior design projects with a high-level of craftsmanship and artistry. In 1953, Borsani founded together with his twin brother Fulgenzio Borsani ‘Tecno’, a design and manufacturing company that produced items based on mechanical innovations and refined technicality. The ‘P40’ adjustable lounge chair (1953) has become the ideological manifesto of Borsani's Tecno program, and still remains the best known, exemplary piece in the Tecno catalogue. Other iconic works that were produced by Tecno were created by Gio Ponti (1891-1979), Vico cham (1920-2006), Carlo de Carli (1910-1999), Gae Aulenti (1927-2012), and many other influential Italian designers. Osvaldo Borsani died in 1985 in Milan. His diverse and sophisticated oeuvre is to be found in permanent collections, such as of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, Neue Sammlung in Munich, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and the Trienalle di Milano Museum.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0289/5187/1548/files/50108872_St_P_3_a1661179-18f2-43f0-b65a-d68c0945d473.jpg?v=1768815465
pia-manu-hand-crafted-room-divider-in-burnished-concrete-and-stained-glass-3
Pia Manu Hand Crafted Room Divider in Burnished Concrete and Stained Glass
Pia Manu, room divider, burnished concrete, stained glass, steel, Belgium, 1970s

This unique piece of art is assembled in the workshop of Pia Manu and is a great testament to their expertise in materialization and remarkable craftsmanship. Contrary to his contemporaries in other countries such as Le Corbusier, Mogensen did not work with new modern materials such as steel and glass. Instead, he chose to work with tested materials such as leather and wood. Being trained by Kaare Klint, he was very focused on the human body and his ideal was to create comfortable furniture, not furniture that would end up in a museum. He already began crafting his own furniture and custom furniture for family and friends in his adolescent years. He studied engineering at Drexel university but was drafted to serve in the Army Air Corps during the Second World War. After his return from the army, he settled in New Hope, Pennsylvania, a place that was crowded with craftspeople such as Paul Evans. It was during this period that he met Evans and throughout the 1950s and 1960s the two men shared a studio. Therefore, they often collaborated, creating some of the most important furniture of the Midcentury Studio Furniture Movement. Together, they shared a love for materials and a passion for handcrafted pieces. Therefore, all his pieces are handmade from high quality, grained woods that often recall their natural shape and form. Another natural material that he often used was slate, the deep grey material was often used for table or credenza tops. He was a man who only want to produce exquisite pieces. In comparison to his contemporary, George Nakashima, he only had a very small production, as he produced about 10.000 pieces. It was in fact Nakashima who urged Powell to begin designing for himself in the first place. Today, Powell’s well-known carved wooden cabinets, consoles, chairs and dining tables are one of the most sought-after pieces from that era.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0289/5187/1548/files/50113378_St_P_4_ae09ec84-a47c-4e6a-885e-6da3e0395d7f.jpg?v=1771251415
charles-flandre-naturalistic-wall-mounted-shelf-in-elm
Charles Flandre Naturalistic Wall Mounted Shelf in Elm
Charles Flandre wall shelf, elm, France, 1960s

Designed by French cabinetmaker Charles Flandre in the 1960s, this wall-mounted shelf unit reflects the designer’s focus on honest materials and clear, functional forms. In 1954, Olivetti, the Italian office equipment manufacturer, hired BBPR to design their New York showroom on Fifth Avenue and to create their first series of office furniture, called Spazio (1959/60). This line included chairs, desks, shelving, and cabinet systems, just like the one shown here.
You can use it simultaneously as a storage facility and room divider. The streamlined construction and the industrial appearance of the grey lacquered steel, makes this wall-unit a truly unique piece to store and showcase your valued belongings.

Kindly note that the piece is in good, used condition with some signs of age and use. Constructed from stainless steel and polished glass, it presents an almost clinical clarity, a kind of architectural calm that resists any romantic gesture. But beneath that surface is a deeply intentional and poetic control of material and space.

The unit is structured as a series of vertical planes that alternate in shallow folds, giving the overall form a rhythm that is both subtle and sculptural. Glass shelves float within the metallic frame, secured but visually weightless. It is not a piece that hides anything - there are no doors, no solid panels. Everything is open, visible, exposed. This openness suggests a kind of conceptual honesty, a refusal to conceal structure or function. This design is very much a product of its era – Italy in the early 1970s – a moment when radical design was beginning to intersect with new materials and technological aesthetics. Yet even now, the piece feels fresh, almost futuristic.

Kindly note that the piece is in good, used condition. A few glass shelves contain small chips.
