Its original name, however, is Luna, a reference to the clustered fiberglass domes whose surface evokes the landscape of the moon. Designed by Gianemilio, Piero and Anna Monti for Candle in 1968, the lamp stands as an experimental example of late Italian modernism moving toward a more expressive, post-modern vocabulary.

The composition is built from a series of intersecting hemispherical forms balanced above a chromed steel base. Robert Guillerme studied design and architecture at the École Boule and graduated first in his class in 1934. Meanwhile, Jacques Chambron graduated from the School of Applied Arts in Reims. During the Second World War, the two met in a stalag, a Prussian prisoner camp, while being imprisoned by the Germans in East Prussia and started a great friendship based on their intense and deep passion for interior design. In 1948, Chambron resigned from his job as a painter and decorator on the Rue Nollet in Paris to move to Lille, in the North of France and join Guillerme. A year later, the two met cabinetmaker Émile Dariosecq, who was the owner of a workshop close by. It was during this meeting, that they decided to create their own company. They named it “Votre Maison”, meaning “Your Home”, which became the soul of the company. With this, they wanted to create pieces that focused on functionality combined with a beautiful design useful for daily life, by which they created a worldwide reputation. Most of the furniture designed by this duo shows a strong character and has a great expressive woodwork. The three of them divided their work equally. Overall, Guillerme worked as a designer, Chambron as a commercial, and Dariosecq’s workshop manufactured the pieces. Exceptional craftsmanship and refined materiality make this piece a remarkable example of the designer’s aesthetic.

Biography
Italian designer Ernesto Valabrega (1901-1944) was born in Turin, as the son of celebrated designer and cabinetmaker Vittorio Valabrega (1861-1952). His father Vittorio was, together with his brother, the founder of Fratelli Valabrega (Valabrega Brothers Company, since 1884) that was situated in Turin. During the 1890s, Vittorio became the sole owner of the company and had great success with his refined wooden furniture. Vittorio Valabrega became well-known for his furniture in the floral Art Nouveau style, but as a true child of the 19th century, his company also manufactured furniture in Neo-Renaissance and the French Rococo Louis XV-style. His designs received positive attention and were awarded at World Exhibitions. At the famous exhibition in Paris in 1900, Vittorio even received a gold medal.

It was at the age of twenty-four that Ernesto got on board with his father’s business. His involvement from 1925 onwards had a great impact on the company. Ernesto decided to change the company’s name to Mobilart in 1928 and radically redirected the course. Whereas Vittorio was inspired by a variety of contemporary and historic styles, Ernesto chose for a different approach. He renounced the 19th century mixture of styles and approached furniture design in the same manner as the highly influential William Morris of the English Arts and Crafts movement. Their reform was an artistic reaction to the widespread industrialization of the 19th century.

Ernesto despised products of poor quality and chose high quality materials that would last a lifetime. The furniture he created in the late 1920s and 1930s are a true testament to his beliefs. With his irregular carvings of oakwood, the hammered hinges, flowing edges, embossed surfaces his furniture shows quality, attention to detail and ultimate craftsmanship.

Kindly note that the piece is in good, used condition with signs of age and use. The L01 bed by Pierre Chapo is characterized for its taut, sober design with simple lines and the box joints at the corners of the frame. Chapo designed this daybed in 1959 for the writer Samuel Becket and named it 'Godot', in reference to the play 'Waiting for Godot'.

Pierre Chapo (1927-1987) was born in a family of craftsmen and trained as an architect at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Already from a young age, he felt the need to roam the world. He was only twenty-one when he left France in order to spend the next few years traveling through England and Scandinavia. In December of 1951, he was living back in Paris, where he met his future wife, Nicole. Their meeting was the beginning of a lifelong union. Together, the lovebirds travelled through South and North America being captivated by the architectural diversity. Back in France, he and his partner Nicole set up Société Chapo in 1957. Société Chapo was a design workshop and gallery in one where he showed his own creations. However, Nicole also presented her ceramics, and textiles here and they even exhibited other great designers of that period. In 1958, they opened their famous gallery at 14 Boulevard de l'Hopital. Chapo's work originated by means of special commissions that could later be adapted to universal needs. Throughout his career, Chapo combined his interest for contemporary design with his love for traditional craftsmanship. In his designs, he was inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright's balanced lines, Corbusier's research on proportions and the ideas of Bauhaus. The three principles that motivated Pierre Chapo were 'material, form, and function.' He measured his furniture by means of golden ratio and used elmwood as his preferred material. Unfortunately, Chapo fell ill, and he died in 1987, however, until his last day, he kept on designing and working.

Mattress size: 140 x 190cm / 55 x 75 in.

The price listed is including the mattress and pillows. Founded in 1946 by Fred Lowen and Ernest Rodeck, the company's name is a combination of their initials. Their partnership developed into one of Australia's foremost modern furniture manufacturers. The design aligns with the principles of postmodernism. Design in the late sixties and seventies was all about going beyond the strict conventions of modernism, with the exploration of the different qualities of materials, use of pop colors, with peculiar and symbolic appearances as the outcome. In the design world of the 1970s, it was commonplace to see sectional sofas featuring a soft, organic layout and rendered in the most vibrant colors. Noted designers such as Pierre Paulin, Olivier Mourgue, Mario Bellini, Rossi di Albizzate, Tito Agnoli, Verner Panton, Cini Boeri, Gaetano Pesce, and Joe Colombo, to name a few, contributed to this tradition.

In addition to its aesthetic appeal, the seamless seating system excels in functionality. Comprising a pair of lounge chairs and one ottoman, it offers the flexibility to create various configurations. The single chairs can function as standalone pieces or can be arranged side by side to form a sofa arrangement. A truly magnificent and postmodern piece with a soft teddy mohair in aubergine color by Pierre Frey that will grab everyone's attention. A quote from an advertisement of the model perfectly sums up the purpose of the design: "A shape for sitting, sprawling or flopping into. (...) We called it "The Idler". He made his entrance as an industrial designer at General Motors and subsequently started assisting furniture designers Carl Malmsten (1888-1972) and Werner West (1890-1959). In 1951, he established his own company ‘Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB’ in Markaryd, Sweden. He worked during the Golden Age of Scandinavian design and his oeuvre ranged from furniture, lighting, and various everyday objects. Jakobsson is best remembered for his softly glowing, glare-free lighting fixtures, which were inspired by the "organic modern" approaches of Danish lighting master Poul Henningsen (1894-1967) and Finnish icon Alvar Aalto (1898-1976). Jakobsson created a diversity of pendants, floor lamps, wall lamps, and table lamps that showcase a penchant for diverse materials and forms, as well as a deep understanding of lighting effects. Throughout his career, Jakobsson carried out commissions for private homes as well as public buildings. His designs from the interwar and postwar periods merged artisanal tradition with modern sensibility.

The small cabinet, made in the 1920s-40s, demonstrates Schulz’s mature style and his characteristic use of the Bo-Point technique, a decorative system that became synonymous with Boet’s production in the late 1920s till the 1940s. The cabinet stands on an oak framework, notable for its sculptural “lion’s paw” feet that evoke both classical and baroque precedents. The structure supports a rectangular case enveloped in deep green faux leather, its surface articulated with brass furniture nails arranged in precise geometric configurations: central circles framed within rectilinear borders. The furniture nails, also referred to as Bo-Point, featured convex heads closely set in linear or curvilinear formations, and used to delineate motifs, define borders, or generate decorative patterning. The technique was frequently employed on cabinets, bar furniture, mirrors, stools, and other luxury furnishings that served as the centerpiece of domestic interiors. The interior is fitted with drawers. The backside is stamped with "Boet".

The design reflects an alternative approach to the emerging functionalist ideals that were beginning to shape Swedish modernism. In an era when the ideals of rationalism, technological progress, and social utility were celebrated as the hallmarks of design, Schulz and his firm Boet cultivated a language of comfort, craft, and decorative individuality.

By the end of the 1920s, functionalism had begun to gain ground among progressive architects and designers in Sweden, a movement that would become dominant after the Stockholm Exhibition of 1930. With over four million visitors, this landmark event introduced the general public to the aesthetics and social ambitions of modernism. Organized according to the principles of rational planning and industrial production, the exhibition promoted simplicity, light surfaces, and the reduction of ornament as visual expressions of social and technological progress. As Uno Åhrén (1897-1977) and other functionalist theorists argued, the new style was not merely a matter of form, but also of social responsibility. Design was to serve the collective needs of a modern society rather than the decorative desires of the individual.

Otto Schulz’s response to this new order was neither overtly oppositional nor reactionary. Rather, he occupied an in-between position that reveals the pluralism of early modern Swedish design. While many of his contemporaries embraced simple shapes and inexpensive materials, Schulz continued to produce furniture that spoke to a cultivated bourgeois audience – consumers who valued comfort, quality, and visual richness. At Boet, the store he founded in Gothenburg, interiors were composed not of functionalist austerity but of upholstered chairs and sofas, polished woods with marquetry, and patterned textiles. He also created modular systems with modernist details like metal feet, yet their forms remained soft, tactile, and expressive.

During the mid-1930s, Swedish design entered a new phase that softened the austerity of early functionalism. What would later be termed Swedish Modern emerged from this period, uniting modernist clarity of form with artisanal craftsmanship, natural materials, and an emphasis on comfort and domesticity. This aesthetic gained international recognition at the Paris World’s Fair in 1937 and the New York World’s Fair in 1939. The arrival of Josef Frank (1885-1967) at Svenskt Tenn in 1934 signaled this shift toward a softer, more human modernism that embraced history, color, and comfort. Schulz’s work anticipated many of these tendencies. His designs never fully abandoned tradition; instead, they evolved within it, designing exclusive and handcrafted furniture that balances tradition with function.

In retrospect, the cabinet embodies what might be called a bourgeois modernity: a design ethos that accepted modern form but refused to abandon the values of home, tradition, and craft. Schulz’s work reminds us that the story of modern design was never linear or uniform. Even at the height of functionalism’s influence, there were designers who, through subtle means, resisted its dogma. Schulz’s cabinet asserts that modern life could be not only rational and efficient, but also warm, beautiful, and deeply human.

Boet

In central Gothenburg, one of Sweden’s most exclusive interior design shops, Firma Boet, was established during the interwar period. The store was founded in 1920 by the architect Otto Schulz, together with the Stockholm architect Adolf Nordinberg. Boet soon developed into a fully-stocked store with competitors in Sweden, and within a few decades, the shop was comparable – but also competitive – with the furnishing department at Nordiska Kompaniet or Firma Svenskt Tenn in Stockholm. In his solo efforts, Schulz continued to develop furniture designs that adapted to the changing times, and in relation to the trends of leading firms of the time, such as Swedish Grace during the 1920s and the Swedish Modern movement from the 1930s onwards. Schulz repeatedly emphasized his position as owner and artistic leader for Firma Boet. Schulz was also recognized for creating designs and individual furniture pieces featured in the firm’s magazine, Boet. However, it is likely that many other employees played a crucial role in supporting and boosting the production capabilities of the company.

The magazine Boet was a monthly magazine for home culture, crafts, and industrial art, published monthly from 1928 to 1938, with a special anniversary issue in 1945. The magazine primarily featured photographs and editorial texts about Firma Boet’s furniture and interiors, but it also contained a number of articles, reviews, and commentary. Boet enlisted a diverse group of contributors, including museum curators, theorists, critics, architects, craftsmen, designers, and representatives from the art industry. Many of these writers were actively involved in Gothenburg's cultural scene. They explored Boet from various angles, covering topics such as advancements in furniture design, architecture, interior decor, lighting, formal events, lighting fixtures, wallpapers, textiles, modern paintings, tapestries, decorative arts, and table settings. Throughout his career, Chapo combined his interest for contemporary design with his love for traditional craftmanship.

Measurements dining table: H 73.5 W 302.5 D 107 cm I H 28.94 W 119.09 D 42.13 in.

Kaare Klint for Rud. Referred to as the Red Chair, the first chairs without armrests were originally conceived for the lecture hall of the Danish Art and Design Museum. Gustav Falck, the director of the National Gallery of Denmark, possessed a collection of antique English chairs in the Chippendale style dating back to circa 1750-1760. In September, the museum borrowed the "finest" chair from Falck's collection, that Ole Wanscher would examine. This research served as inspiration, leading to the completion of the design and the final model by Rud. Rasmussens Snedkerier in November 1927. Subsequently, Klint adapted the chair for his sectional tables, stimulating the need for smaller variations, available in three sizes and with or without arms. In 1930, Klint came with an armchair version, specifically designed for the office of the Prime Minister Thorvald Stauning.

Furthermore, these chairs gained international acclaim when they were exhibited at the World Exposition in Barcelona, earning the prestigious grand prix medal in 1929. As a result of this recognition, they became known as the 'Barcelona Chair.'

Kaare Klint (1888-1954), born in 1988 in Frederiksburg, Denmark, was a Danish architect and furniture designer. From a young age, Klint was immersed in architecture. His father was the well-known architect Peder Vilhelm Jensen-Klint, who is mainly known for designing the Grundtvigs church in Copenhagen. After studying at the P.S. Krøyer’s Art School from 1907, Klint made his debut as a designer. That year, the Association of Furniture Manufacturers in Copenhagen announced that they would hold a competition for designer furniture. Klint submitted, together with Ivar Bentsen, under a code name and together they received first price. In 1924, Klint helped establishing the Department of Furniture Design at the Royal Danish Academy of fine Arts. As associate professor, and later professor, he inspired some of the greatest and most well-known Danish designers, including Hans J. Wegner and Arne Jacobsen. Klint worked and thought along a few strong principles being the importance of former styles. He believed that the only way forward was to have a deep knowledge of craftsmanship. One of his other core principles was to research functionality and have an outstanding sense of proportion, space and the human body. Overall, Klint drew inspiration from the Shakers, Chippendale and Biedermeier. Kaare Klint's style from the 20s and 30s has had a lot of influence on other designers in both Europe and the United States. Amongst others Børge Mogensen, Finn Juhl and Poul Kjærholm have taken influence from Klint. Therefore, Kaare Klint can be seen as the father of Danish midcentury design.

Measurements chairs: H 89 W 60.5 D 56.5 cm I H 35.04 W 23.82 D 22.24 in. This design is exemplary for the duo's expert craftsmanship and great sense for proportions and decorations. The front is composed of two sliding-doors, each meticulously adorned with intricate embossed carvings of rectangular forms. The capricious legs complement this elaborate style, showing beautiful carved lines executed in a sculptural manner. The interior is equipped with shelves. Overall, this remarkable cabinet reflects their unique artistic vision, masterfully realized with high-quality materials and visually striking elements.

The French designer duo Jacques Chambron (1914-2001) and Robert Guillerme (1913-1990) started their production postwar. Throughout their career, ‘Votre Maison’ produced over two thousand models, leaving a lasting mark in the world of design. Its scale is unusual even within Rivadossi’s oeuvre, where large custom commissions already tend toward the sculptural and immersive.

The exceptional level of craftsmanship is central to the object’s significance. Produced by Rivadossi’s atelier, the work reflects a woodworking tradition in which carving, joinery, and material finishing are treated as integral formal elements. The precision of the carved reliefs, the way the zig-zag doors fit like a puzzle into the frame, and the continuity of the oak grain across the surfaces attest to the labour-intensive, workshop-based production methods associated with the designer’s practice.

A notable aspect of the work is the variation of compartments and modes of opening. Rather than relying on a repetitive modular logic, Rivadossi introduces asymmetries and differing cabinet dimensions, producing a dynamic visual cadence across the extensive horizontal format. Small square openings fitted with glass punctuate the façade and add depth to the piece.

Giuseppe Rivadossi (1935) was born in Monteclana di Nave, Italy, where he continues to live and work. His journey with wood carving began at a young age, each piece embodying his poetic vision of life. In 1962, Rivadossi took over the carpentry business founded by his father, Clemente, in 1920, transforming it into an atelier, or rather a creative workshop. In 1976, Rivadossi and his collaborators established ‘Officina Rivadossi’, where he began crafting unique wooden objects and modern furniture, blending artistry with craftsmanship. This bookcase is the largest version, measuring 284 cm / 111.81 in. in width. The shelving system made its debut at the Salon des Arts Ménagers in 1967. This robust and solid bookcase consists of four elm shelves that rest on brackets. While brackets are typically placed beneath shelves, Chapo chose to play with these rules by designing supports that fit seamlessly into the uprights. As a result, the supports function both as structural elements and as bookends. By mounting to the wall, this bookcase maximizes available living space. This wall unit embodies the Champagne style, with Chapo being a prominent exponent of the movement, alongside Charlotte Perriand.

In 1959, Gio Ponti was commissioned to design a modern hotel building along the coast of Sorrento, Italy. The hotel, uniquely positioned on the ancient walls of historic remains, opened its doors in 1962. To this day, the luxurious setting reflects Ponti’s signature approach, characterized by his exclusive use of blue and white tones throughout the interiors. Ponti initially designed this floor lamp with a blue shade to furnish both private and public areas of the hotel. Its functionality is highlighted by an adjustable stem and lampshade, allowing users to direct the light as desired. The lamp’s elegance is showcased through its slender brass stem, complemented by a transparent base that enhances the lightness and simplicity of the entire piece. The hemispherical shade in beige pairs beautifully with the patinated brass.

Giovanni (Gio) Ponti (1891 – 1979) is one of the most influential Italian designers of the twentieth century. His contribution to architecture, furniture design and the arts has been substantial. Born in Milan in 1891, he attended the Polytechnic University of Milan, where he graduated in Architecture in 1921 after serving the military during WWI. He opened his first studio in 1927 in Milan with architect Emilio Lancia. Soon after, he founded Domus magazine in 1928 with Gianni Mazzocchi, which became one of the most prominent European magazines in architecture and design. Ponti participated during the Triennale exhibitions of the 1930's, and later he became a member of the Triennial committee. A significant shift can be distinguished in his designs between the two World Wars. During the early years, Ponti's style positioned between rationalism and Lombard Classicism that came forward in his use of decorative elements in his furniture and objects. Functionality and a pragmatic approach started to play a bigger role in his later designs. His work as a designer fully took off after WWII, and he became an important figure in Italian industrial aesthetics that conquered the international markets in the 1950s. Gio Ponti worked together with many designers, such as Antonio Fornaroli and Alberto Rosselli, and his work has been of great inspiration for even more. A few amongst Ponti's followers are Paolo Buffa, Paco Muñoz and Lina Bo Bardi, as with the latter Ponti worked together on a series of projects during the early period of Bo Bardi's career.
