Early Gae Aulenti Yellow 'Locus Solus' Bench

Italian designer Gae Aulenti designed the ‘Locus Solus’ series in 1964 especially for the movie ‘La Piscine’ with Romy Schneider and Alain Delon. The ‘Locus Solus’ items were specifically created for outdoor use. Aulenti used a classical shape with new industrial materials and colorful highlights. Almost in the same way you could imagine bent wood forming the frame, the yellow-colored metal builds it in this case. The seat is made of a yellow metal grid and upholstered with the original pillows. Two circles with geometric patterns in blue, yellow and orange catch the eye and invite you to sit down. Patina on the frame as well as the upholstery breathes the value of time. This specific piece is an original early edition.

Gae Aulenti (1927-2012) was an Italian designer and architect. In 1954, she graduated at the Milan School of Architecture of the Polytechnic University and was only one of two women from her class of 20. Aulenti is mostly known for her large-scale museum projects such as her work for the Musée d’Orsay and Centre Pompidou in Paris. Although Aulenti worked in the post-war period of Italy, her work spans across a wide variety of styles and influences.
