Edward Wormley Free-Standing Queen Size Bed with Drawers
Edward Wormley for Dunbar, queen size bed with drawers, oak, leather, brass, United States, 1960s
Rare queen-size bed by Edward Wormley for Dunbar designed in the 1960s. This exceptional bed features a wooden frame and large headboard that both include storage space. Leather handles access the facilities under the queen-sized frame that overhangs the base. A deep headboard has two sided storage space and therefore the bed is designed to be free-standing. Beautiful idea is the combination of dark stained oak for the frame together with blond oak for the fronts. This bed is a great example of Wormley's designs for Dunbar.
Edward Wormley (1907-1995) was an American designer. After not finishing his degree due to lack of funds Wormley started to work as an interior designer. In the 1940s, Wormley was hired to work with Dunbar. Their collaboration was a success story as Dunbar incorporated several techniques and aesthetics from European design. It was Wormley's aim to create a high-quality line, that was also available for the masses.
