As a young man, he was passionate about design and enrolled in the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1926, but left due to financial issues and began working for an interior design company. He later joined the Dunbar Furniture Company in Indiana, where he served as director of design for almost 40 years. Following World War Two, he became an independent design consultant. Wormley passed away in 1995, but his legacy of creating elegant and high-quality furniture lives on. During the Second World War, the two met in a stalag, a Prussian prisoner camp, while being imprisoned by the Germans in East Prussia and started a great friendship based on their intense and deep passion for interior design. In 1948, Chambron resigned from his job as a painter and decorator on the Rue Nollet in Paris to move to Lille, in the North of France and join Guillerme. A year later, the two met cabinetmaker Émile Dariosecq, who was the owner of a workshop close by. It was during this meeting, that they decided to create their own company. They named it “Votre Maison”, meaning “Your Home”, which became the soul of the company. With this, they wanted to create pieces that focused on functionality combined with a beautiful design useful for daily life, by which they created a worldwide reputation. Most of the furniture designed by this duo shows a strong character and has a great expressive woodwork. The three of them divided their work equally. Overall, Guillerme worked as a designer, Chambron as a commercial, and Dariosecq’s workshop manufactured the pieces. In 1933, Wirkkala began to studiy industrial arts at the Central School of Applied Arts and graduated in 1936. Under his fellow students was no other than Ilmari Tapiovaara. After forced military service and the Second World War, Wirkkala started to work successfully as a glass artist. He also worked as a graphic, exhibition and furniture designer. As he said himself \"my fatal defect is that I am interested in too many things\". His oeuvre contains cutlery, glass ware, furniture and sculptures. At the Triennale in 1951, Wirkkala was aquainted with Gio Ponti and his family to whom Wirkkala began a friendship. One of his trademarks is his incorporation of Finnish flora and fauna in his design. He is inspired by the materials and appearances of nature. His sensitive approach to different materials and his great craftsmanship resulted in striking designs. Already in the 1940s Wirkkala’s interest for plywood arose. By grinding laminated plywood Wirkkala achieved rhythmic lines. These patterns would often resemble in leaves or other natural shapes. During this period, he encountered Avant-Garde artists of various artistic disciplines like Lucio Fontana (1899-1968), Agenore Fabbri (1911-1998), Aligi Sassu (1912-2000), Roberto Crippa (1921-1972), Fausto Melotti (1901-1986), Arnaldo Pomodoro (1926-) and Giò Pomodoro (1930-2002). These collaborations resulted in the creation of furniture and interior design projects with a high-level of craftsmanship and artistry. In 1953, Borsani founded together with his twin brother Fulgenzio Borsani ‘Tecno’, a design and manufacturing company that produced items based on mechanical innovations and refined technicality. The ‘P40’ adjustable lounge chair (1953) has become the ideological manifesto of Borsani's Tecno program, and still remains the best known, exemplary piece in the Tecno catalogue. Other iconic works that were produced by Tecno were created by Gio Ponti (1891-1979), Vico Magistretti (1920-2006), Carlo de Carli (1910-1999), Gae Aulenti (1927-2012), and many other influential Italian designers.
